Lagos Orders Residents To Observe Indoor Restriction For April 25 Sanitation Exercise
The Lagos State Government has directed residents across the five divisions of the state to remain indoors and participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 25, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, residents were urged to clean their surroundings and clear drainage channels in front of their homes before proceeding with other activities after the exercise.
Wahab disclosed that adequate evacuation and compactor trucks have been deployed across the state, with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) strategically positioned to promptly remove solid waste and debris generated during the exercise.
To underscore the government’s commitment, top officials will monitor compliance across various locations.

The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, alongside members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), will lead a monitoring team, while the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, will head another team in a separate local government area.
The Commissioner further noted that major transport unions in the state have pledged not to operate vehicles from parks and terminals during the sanitation period, as a demonstration of support for the initiative.
He explained that the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise followed sustained calls from residents advocating for a dedicated time to maintain cleanliness in their communities.
Community Development Associations (CDAs) were also urged to mobilise their members to ensure full participation and revive the culture of collective environmental responsibility.
Wahab added that all local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), alongside some private organisations, are supporting the exercise by providing tools and waste evacuation vehicles.
He warned that environmental health and enforcement officers would be deployed across neighbourhoods to monitor compliance.
Defaulters risk being issued abatement notices and may face prosecution in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management Law of 2017 and other relevant regulations.
The state government had earlier announced the return of the monthly sanitation exercise on March 14, when Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by the Deputy Governor and other officials, monitored and participated in a clean-up exercise at Agege Motor Road in the Mushin area of Lagos.
