As the search for Nancy Guthrie enters its eighth week, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos finally revealed the significance of January 11th in the investigation.
NBC News correspondent Liz Kreutz recently spoke with Nanos and learned why investigators are seeking surveillance footage from that key date.
Nanos reportedly confirmed that Google initially told investigators that the surveillance image of the masked suspect, the one where he’s not wearing a backpack, was believed to have been taken on January 11th.
“He actually, for the first time, told us the origin of that date and the significance,” Kreutz said in an Instagram video. “He said that January 11th came to them from Google, as they’ve been helping to try to retrieve the Nest camera surveillance footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera.”

She continued, “He says that when Google was able to retrieve some of those surveillance images that we’ve all seen, that Google came to them and said, ‘this particular image, the one that doesn’t show the suspect wearing a backpack, we believe that’s from January 11th.’”
However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos backed off that assertion.
“Google initially reported that date as a ‘possibility,’ then later retracted the statement,” he told NBC News.
Google reportedly told authorities that it could not definitively determine the image in question was from January 11th or any specific date. The company has not yet commented on the reports.
Savannah Guthrie Acknowledges Key Date in Nancy Guthrie Search
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie and her family also highlighted January 11th in their latest statement amid the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie.
On March 21, the “TODAY” show co-anchor asked the community for continued support.
“We hope people search their memories, especially around the key timelines of Jan. 31 and the early morning hours of Feb.1, as well as the late evening of Jan. 11,” the Guthrie family said in a statement.
They continued, “We desperately ask this community for renewed attention to our mom’s case — please consult camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations or conversations that in retrospect may hold significance. No detail is too small. It may be the key.
We miss our mom with every breath and we cannot be in peace until she is home. We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder. Our focus is solely on finding her and bringing her home. We want to celebrate her beautiful and courageous life. But we cannot do that until she is brought to a final place of rest.”
