Sandra Bullock Shares Emotional Update on Prioritizing Her Children Above All
Sandra Bullock is opening up about the role that matters most to her, being a mother. Speaking at the CNBC Changemakers Summit in New York City, the Oscar-winning star shared how she carefully balances her career while raising her two children, Louis and Laila.
For the actress, every project begins with one question: how does it fit into her life at home?
‘I’m Raising My Children, Not Anybody Else’
“I made this film at this time because I knew my kids were out of school. I’m not going to sacrifice my children’s — my time — with my kids,” she said, as reported by People.
“They’d be happy if I was gone. I would not. It’s true. And I do not do my best work if my children are struggling or if they need something and I can’t facilitate it.”
Bullock spoke candidly about the emotional balance many parents face while working.
“I’m raising my children, not anybody else. But I have the luxury of doing that in this business. So many people don’t,” she said. “And I understand that grief and that angst when you are at work, going, ‘I’m not where I need to be right now. I’m here being performative and doing my job.’ But guess what? Women can do it. We can do 15 things at one time and get it done.”
Her comments reflected both gratitude and honesty about the pressures of juggling career and family life.
A Journey to Motherhood That Came at the Right Time
Bullock became a mother later in life through adoption, a journey she has spoken about with gratitude and appreciation.
“I don’t know why that was the only route, but I’m so glad the universe had me wait,” she said during a 2022 appearance on “Red Table Talk.”
“Had me wait even though I was anxious and I was eager — and it went nope, you’re not going to do it the way you think you’re going to do it.”
For Bullock, motherhood has shaped not only her life but the way she sees the world.
Returning to Acting After Time Focused on Family
Bullock is now preparing for a return to the screen with “Practical Magic 2,” marking her first major project in several years.
In March 2022, she previously shared that stepping away from acting gave her the space to be fully present with her children during important years of their lives.
“I’m not retiring, just going to not spend time in front of the camera for a while. I have beautiful babies. I’d rather look at them,” she said, as quoted by People.
“I’d rather look at them every day and have them be mad at me and annoyed and make memories with them for right now.”
Her return follows a time of personal healing after the loss of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who died in 2023 after battling ALS.
