Reactions have trailed the gaffe of a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Odigie-Oyegun, who mistakenly shouted APC (All Progressives Congress) while on the podium at the National Convention of the ADC at the Rainbow Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
The video of the gaffe went viral on Tuesday with the former National Chairman of the APC finding a way to make amends.
After mistakenly calling out: “APC Arise,”, Odigie-Oyegun immediately caught the error, pausing to ask: “Did I say APC?
“No.”
Laughing off the mistake, he jokingly told the crowd: “I think I need to drink something strong to take that out of my system.”
The slip stirred reactions from delegates present as they bursted into laughter.
The footage generated reactions from some Nigerians on X.
@rexenus wrote: “These are some of the effects of jumping from party to party. If we just have 2 with unique ideology like the Democrats and Republicans in the USA nonsense like this won’t happen.”
@Mrtheophilus87 tweeted: “Remember he was the former chairman of APC so the blood of the party is still running in him…he need to undergo surgery to remove APC tumor..”
@Top_Debugger said: “These old men should just get the fuck out of our politics and go find somewhere to rest. They are a major problem to our growth as a nation.”
@Vickyempire wrote: “Hope he is being real.”
@Tifi stated: “This one mind dey APC, they shouldn’t include him in their plans because hmm.”
@Gabe alleged: “He is Tinubu mole.”
@PumpAcction wrote: “Lead with the contradiction. You left APC for ADC, but your mouth is still registered in APC. At ADC’s own convention, you were chanting APC. Which party are you actually marketing?”
@fataialoma wrote: “This how people will eventually vote for APC at the end.”
@Greg_Mendel11 tweeted: “If you think it’s a slip of tongue then consider yourself as the most recent political slave of 2026. This was how some of you thought it was a slip of tongue when BAT shouted “PDAPC” prior to the 2023 election, only for it to be confirmed after his election. The signs are there.”
@PumpAcction said: “This is why Nigerians call it ‘political tourism.’ No ideology, no loyalty, just revolving-door politics. If you’re proud of APC, stay there. If you believe in ADC, sell ADC. You don’t get to eat from both plates and call it reform.”
