Plateau Moves for Justice: Five Suspects Charged Over Angwa-Rukuba Killings

Weeks after a deadly attack in Angwa-Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, the state government has taken a major legal step by charging five suspects linked to the killings.

The suspects were earlier arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) following the March 2026 attack, which left dozens of residents dead and many others injured.

This development comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu visited the state and assured residents that those behind the violence would be brought to justice.

Charges Filed Against the Suspects

The Plateau State Government filed multiple charges against the suspects, including criminal conspiracy and terrorism-related offences.

Four of the accused Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (also known as Auwalu Dogo), and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (also called Yaroro), alongside another suspect still at large, were charged with: Conspiring to carry out acts of terrorism; Planning, funding, and facilitating the Angwa-Rukuba attack

According to the charge sheet, the suspects allegedly organised and supported the attack that led to the deaths of over 30 people in the community.

The suspects were arrested between April 3 and April 10, 2026, during security operations.

The State Attorney General, Philemon Audu Daffi, stated that their actions violate Sections 269 and 270 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law (2017), which deal with terrorism-related offences.

The Angwa-Rukuba killings are part of a broader pattern of violent attacks in Plateau State, a region long troubled by recurring clashes and insecurity.

Gunmen reportedly stormed the community at night, opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic and casualties.

Following the killings, there were growing calls to suspend public events in the state, including a government-backed programme titled “Experience Plateau: Arts Meets Fashion.”

Residents and civil society groups have continued to demand accountability and better protection for communities vulnerable to such attacks.
