The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, has reiterated the corporation’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of its workforce as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and align with global best practices.
Opeifa made this known during an interaction with members of the corporation’s delegation attending the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Week and Annual General Meeting in Kaduna State.
He said the corporation remained focused on strengthening the professional competence of its staff through sustained capacity-building initiatives.
Opeifa expressed optimism that participation in the conference would equip delegates with the necessary skills and expertise to improve service delivery within the rail sector.
Earlier, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the corporation, Callistus Unyimadu, commended the management for its consistent support to the public relations department, noting that such backing had enabled the team to meet and exceed expectations.
He said the annual Public Relations Week provided an avenue for staff to engage with professionals across government ministries, departments, agencies, and the private sector, thereby fostering knowledge exchange and improved performance.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Managing Director on Media and Communication, Yinka Aderibigbe, described the event as highly impactful, citing the quality of discussions and intellectual engagements.
Aderibigbe praised Opeifa for his dedication to human capital development within the corporation, noting that the focus on training cuts across all departments.
The event, which attracted over 2,000 participants, was declared open by Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other top government officials.
In his remarks, NIPR President Ike Neliaku said the institute was better positioned to showcase Nigeria’s positive strides, urging citizens to recognise progress across various sectors despite prevailing challenges.
Chairman of the conference organising committee, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, noted that the event provided participants with firsthand insight into security conditions in northern Nigeria, which he said differed from prevailing perceptions.
The NRC delegation included senior public relations officers and representatives from various chapters, reflecting the corporation’s commitment to professional development and institutional growth.
