Kobbie Mainoo is set to commit his long-term future to Manchester United after reaching a full agreement on a new contract that will run until June 2031.
The 21-year-old midfielder, regarded as a key part of United’s rebuilding process, is expected to sign the deal later this week, with an official announcement anticipated soon.
The agreement comes after a period of uncertainty earlier in the season, when Mainoo had considered his options following limited opportunities under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Contract reflects growing importance
The new terms underline Mainoo’s rising status within the squad. His weekly salary is set to increase significantly from £25,000 to around £120,000, with additional performance-based bonuses included.
Mainoo’s development has accelerated in recent months, particularly following the arrival of interim manager Michael Carrick, who has restored him to a central role in midfield.
Carrick influence drives turnaround
Carrick’s appointment has proven pivotal in Mainoo’s development at Old Trafford.
The former United midfielder has consistently backed the youngster, highlighting his composure and ability to adapt quickly at the highest level.
“I think he’s done really well. Not having a lot of football for a period of time to come in and play a run of games and find your rhythm. I think he did that really quickly and there’s a natural kind of flow really,” Carrick said.
Mainoo’s resurgence has coincided with an upturn in United’s results, with the club now just two points away from securing Champions League qualification.
The midfielder is also expected to be part of England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, further elevating his profile.
United are continuing contract talks with other key players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, as they look to stabilise the squad ahead of next season.
