Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has called on over 800 Juma’at mosque imams to intensify prayers for Nigeria’s peace and prosperity.
Speaking to Blueprint Correspondent in Damaturu on Thursday, his Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Mallam Kyari, said the imams have pledged to promote peaceful coexistence among their followers.
He also announced that the state government has rolled out welfare packages for religious leaders, including cash donations, bank transfers, and annual trips to the Holy Ka’aba.
Kyari detailed the support such as: N200,000 each given to Juma’at mosque imams and selected Islamic scholars. For Ramadan 2026, N100,000 each was transferred to Tsangaya leaders and Juma’at imams across the state’s 14 emirate councils.
According to him, others are, on April 14, 2026, Buni met with chief imams from all 17 LGAs and provided N200,000 each.
He said the governor sponsored a group of Islamic scholars (Ulamas) to the Holy Ka’aba to pray for state and national harmony and provides sacrificial rams to chief imams of the state capital’s metropolitan area during layya (Eid Sacrifice).
Kyari outlined other previous welfare interventions to include N50,000 cash for 200 orphans (first batch) and N50,000 cash for another 200 orphans (second batch).
He said N50,000 plus bags of rice were for guardians of 61 orphans, supported by Qatar Foundation and N100,000 each for 400 widows and support for 340 orphans.
“184 widows, and 10 persons with disabilities across all 17 LGAs and N100,000 each for 1,000 orphans to ease economic hardship among other support,” said Babagana Kyari.
The special adviser urged citizens to love one another, pray for the governor, and unite for the state’s development.
