Arnold Schwarzenegger and longtime partner Heather Milligan are proving that a quieter love story can still stand the test of time.
More than a decade after they first met, the couple’s relationship remains strong—despite largely staying out of the spotlight.
The two were spotted at Nobu Malibu for a simple date night in images obtained by the Daily Mail.
Schwarzenegger was in a black blazer with blue jeans, while Milligan was in all white.
Milligan, now 51, and Schwarzenegger, 78, first connected back in 2012 under decidedly unromantic circumstances.
How the Two Met
At the time, the “The Terminator” star was recovering from shoulder surgery and preparing for his role in the 2013 action film “Escape Plan” alongside Sylvester Stallone.
Looking to get back into peak physical condition, Schwarzenegger asked his surgeon for a top recommendation—and was pointed directly to Milligan.
Schwarzenegger spoke with People back in September 2023.
“I said, ‘I got to go do this movie, and I bring a lot of punches and I have fights with Sly and I want to have my act together,’” he recalled.
The response was immediate: “There’s only one (person), it’s Heather — any athlete, I always send them to her, because she’s the only one that really knows what they’re talking about.”
After completing his physical therapy and finishing the film, Schwarzenegger reached out again—this time on a more personal note. “I called her back and took her out for lunch to say thank you. And then one thing led to the next.”
At the time, Schwarzenegger had recently separated from his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver.
Their divorce would later be finalized in 2021, but the two have remained committed to co-parenting their four children—Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher—and continue to come together for family milestones.
The Two Keep Their Relationship Private
Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger’s bond with Milligan has quietly deepened over the years.
He has often spoken about the qualities that drew him to her—and continue to impress him today.
“We have so many things in common,” he added. “I think the world of her. I love that she’s into working. She’s clearly independent. She just is driven as hell.”
He’s also highlighted her resilience and work ethic, noting that she put herself through college and earned a master’s degree while juggling jobs like bartending.
According to Schwarzenegger, her strength extends beyond her career.
He praised her devotion to her family, explaining that she was the “driving force” while caring for both of her parents during their battles with cancer.
He shared how she traveled to Nebraska to help look after her grandmother.
“Every night, she’s with her grandmother on the phone for at least a half an hour,” he said. “I mean, that’s when you get to know a person, the heart they have.”
The Two Bond Over Sports
Despite their relatively private relationship, the couple shares plenty of common interests—including sports.
Milligan, a former competitive gymnast, has even influenced Schwarzenegger’s viewing habits.
“She’s heavily into football and all of the sports, basketball, baseball and all of that,” he told People in February 2024. “So because of her, I’ll watch also.”
From a chance meeting rooted in recovery to a lasting partnership built on shared values, Schwarzenegger and Milligan’s relationship continues to thrive—proving that sometimes the strongest connections begin in the most unexpected ways.
