Members of the Accord Party, loyal to Chris Imumolen, on Tuesday staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, demanding his recognition as the party’s authentic national chairman.
The demonstrators, who carried placards and chanted solidarity songs, insisted that a valid court order affirms Imumolen’s leadership.

Protesting supporters’ placards read messages such as “INEC must obey the court and restore Prof. Chris Imumolen now,” “Respect the court, INEC must reinstate Prof. Chris Imumolen,” “INEC must comply and restore Prof. Chris Imumolen,” and “No one is above the law.”

They questioned INEC’s alleged refusal to comply with the ruling.
The leadership crisis within the Accord Party has deepened, with both Imumolen and Maxwell Mgbudem laying claim to the chairmanship of the party.
The dispute has also led to parallel party activities, including the conduct of separate governorship primaries ahead of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, producing two different candidates.
Despite the competing claims, INEC currently recognises Mgbudem and his National Working Committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.
