Iran says nearly 3,500 killed in war with US and Israel
Iran says the death toll from its recent war with the United States and Israel has climbed to nearly 3,500, as competing figures highlight the scale of the conflict.
According to AFP, Iran’s Martyrs and Veterans Foundation reported that 3,468 people were killed during the fighting that began on 28 February.
The ISNA quoted the foundation’s head, Ahmad Mousavi, as saying: “A file has been opened for 3,468 martyrs who fell during the recent conflict.”
An earlier estimate from Iran’s forensic medicine organisation, released on April 12, put the death toll at 3,375.
That count includes 1,701 civilians, among them at least 254 children, as well as 1,221 military personnel and 714 others whose status remains unclear.
