In a chilling discovery that has sent shockwaves through the Igbesa community, operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 43-year-old man caught in possession of fresh human remains intended for ritualistic purposes.
The suspect, identified as Idowu Ashafa, was apprehended in the early hours of Friday, April 17, 2026.
The arrest occurred during a high-stakes routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Solotan K. Owolabi, whose team intercepted Ashafa carrying a suspicious nylon bag.
Upon inspection of the bag, officers discovered a gruesome assortment of remains, including a fresh human head and two human palms.
The discovery immediately transitioned a routine security check into a major criminal investigation.
According to DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, preliminary interrogations led to a swift confession.
Ashafa allegedly admitted to exhuming the remains from a grave at Ido Itekun Village in the Igbesa area.
The police also recovered the specialized implements used to desecrate the burial site, which has since been documented as a crime scene.
Investigators believe Ashafa was acting on the instructions of “clients” or seeking to perform a wealth-enhancement ritual, a practice that continues to plague the social fabric of the region despite aggressive police crackdowns.
“The suspect was intercepted with a fresh human head, two human palms, and other human remains concealed in a nylon bag,” DSP Babaseyi confirmed.
“Our preliminary findings suggest these remains were exhumed specifically for ritual purposes, reflecting a total disregard for the sanctity of the deceased.”
The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for an in-depth probe.
Detectives are now working to determine if Ashafa is part of a larger syndicate involved in the illegal trade of human parts or if he acted alone.
