Yoruba community celebrates Oba Salau in grand style

The Yoruba across the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday converged at the Cyprian Ekwensi  Art and Cultural Center to celebrate the funeral rites of late chairman, Council of Yoruba Obas in Abuja, Dr. Olusegun Salau in a grand style.

Speaking at the occasion, the Otunba of Yoruba community in the FCT,   Chief (Dr) Wasiu Tunwase, who was the chairman planning committee, thanked the dignitaries who turned out during the ceremony.

Also speaking, the son of the deceased, Mr. Sanusi Adeyemi Salau, said his late father lived a fulfilled life and worth of emulation.

He charged the Yoruba community and the Obas to follow the footsteps of his late father for the overall development of the people in FCT. He also called on the Yoruba to always live in peace with one another.

On her part, the wife of the deceased, Queen Basirat Olukorede Salau, described her late husband as humble and responsible, and
charged the Yoruba  to speak with one voice at all times.

She said the late Oba Salau would be remembered for his tremendoussacrifices towards the unity and progress of the Yoruba community in the FCT, Abuja.

The Chief  of Yoruba  community in Zuba, Oba  Murtal A. Odunbaku,
and the Chief of Yoruba community in Tudun Fulani, Deidei, Oba M. Olalekan Lasisi, noted that the late Salau was the first Oba of Yoruba in the FCT.
