Backers of Associate Professor Abubakar Bukar Kagu have purchased nomination forms for his 2027 House of Representatives bid, anchoring their support firmly on the principle of rotational representation the key political issue shaping the race in the Nguru, Machina, Yusufari and Karasuwa Federal Constituency.
Since 1999, the four local government areas have maintained an unwritten but respected zoning arrangement for the federal seat. With Yusufari currently holding the position, stakeholders argue that fairness and equity now demand that the next representative comes from Machina Kagu’s home base.
“That rotation is non-negotiable,” a supporter who spoke on condition of anonymity said.
“Yusufari has had its turn;now it is Machina’s turn.We bought these forms to make that statement clear.”
While Kagu brings strong credentials including his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board, where he launched the RETES programme that awarded 371 foreign scholarships and sponsored over 700 law graduates supporters insist the zoning argument outweighs individual merit in this election cycle.
Legal practitioners from all four local government areas have rallied behind Kagu, but they too emphasize that the rotational arrangement is the primary justification for his emergence.
Within the APC, Kagu is seen as a unifier who can benefit from the zoning momentum while appealing to a broad voter base.
As 2027 approaches, the debate over rotational representation not just Kagu’s profile has become the defining conversation in the constituency.
