US President Donald Trump has ruled out the use of nuclear weapons in the ongoing war with Iran, saying American conventional strikes have already caused significant damage. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said there is no justification for deploying nuclear arms, adding that such weapons should never be used by any country.
“Why would I use a nuclear weapon? We’ve totally, in a very conventional way, decimated them without it,” Trump said. He said that he would not consider nuclear options under any circumstances.
Why has Trump ruled out nuclear weapons?
Trump argued that the United States has already achieved its military objectives through conventional warfare. According to him, Iran’s naval forces, air force, and air defence systems have been largely destroyed, reducing the need for any escalation. He also claimed that key Iranian leadership figures are no longer active, further weakening the country’s military capacity.

What is happening on the diplomatic front?
Despite the military pressure, Trump made it clear that he is not rushing into a deal with Tehran. He said the focus remains on securing a long-term and durable agreement rather than a quick resolution. He also suggested that Iran may have tried to rebuild its military during a recent two-week ceasefire, but warned that any such efforts could be quickly undone.
How is the US strengthening its military presence?
The US has significantly increased its naval deployment in the region. The USS George HW Bush has entered the US Central Command’s area of operations, becoming the third aircraft carrier in the region. It is currently positioned in the Indian Ocean. Meanwhile, the USS Abraham Lincoln is stationed in the Arabian Sea, and the USS Gerald R. Ford is deployed in the Red Sea.
The USS George HW Bush had departed from Norfolk, Virginia, in late March, crossing the Atlantic before taking an unusual southern route around the Horn of Africa toward West Asia.
