A Nigerian trader and TikTok creator, Love Dooshima, has been released from police custody after spending several hours in detention over a viral video in which she questioned the durability of a commercial loaf of bread.
She was earlier invited by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of cyberstalking, fraud, and mischief connected to the video that gained widespread attention on social media.
The case first gained public notice after influencer Lucky Udu disclosed that the TikToker had reached out to him shortly after receiving the police invitation. According to him, the development quickly attracted national interest as many Nigerians monitored the situation.
In messages shared online, Dooshima confirmed she had been summoned to the Force Headquarters for questioning regarding the allegations linked to her viral post.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong later announced that the content creator was released at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday following intervention by senior police authorities. He explained that she had honoured the invitation at about 12 p.m. on Monday at the Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja but was detained afterward.
Effiong said he and other concerned individuals visited the police facility late into the night to press for her release, adding that the Inspector-General of Police subsequently directed that she be freed.
Activists also expressed concern about her health during the detention, noting that she required medication due to hypertension.
The controversy began when Dooshima shared a video claiming that a loaf of bread she purchased remained fresh for nearly two months, sparking heated debate online about product safety and consumer awareness.
In response, the bakery company associated with the claim stated that the allegation had negatively affected its reputation. The firm said it initially attempted to contact the TikToker for clarification but later pursued legal steps after the issue escalated publicly.
The incident has continued to generate mixed reactions across the country, with many Nigerians questioning the involvement of law enforcement in matters relating to consumer complaints and corporate reputation. Further legal developments are expected as the case progresses.
