The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its planned indefinite strike following a major intervention by the Federal Government.
The decision came after the government reversed its earlier stance on the reviewed Professional Allowance Table (PAT) and assured doctors of pending payments and welfare improvements.
“The NEC observed that the earlier decision to halt the implementation of the reviewed Professional Allowance Table (PAT) has been reversed, with implementation expected to reflect in the April salary and beyond.”
The association noted that progress was made after engagements with top government officials, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, alongside other stakeholders in the health sector.
NARD also revealed that steps are being taken to settle outstanding salary arrears and commence the disbursement of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund.
“The Budget Office has indicated its readiness to commence the process for the payment of the outstanding nineteen months’ arrears of the Professional Allowance.”
While the strike has been called off for now, the association says it will continue to monitor developments, with a review expected at its next meeting in May.
