The Kogi State Police Command have confirmed the rescue of one victim and arrest of seven suspects following a kidnapping incident along the Ayere–Kabba Road in Kabba local government area of the state.
The incident, which occurred at about 8:30p.m. on April 13, 2026, involved a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company, with a registration number KJA 405 YJ, traveling from Lagos to Abuja when it was attacked by armed men.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said security operatives responded swiftly to the attack, leading to the rescue of one of the victims identified as Adoun Julius, 56-year-old.
According to the statement, the vehicle was also recovered and taken to a police facility for further investigation.
It added that joint security forces, including the police, military, and other agencies, had intensified efforts to rescue the remaining abducted passengers.
“Ongoing operations include extensive bush-combing and coordinated search-and-rescue missions in the area,” the statement stated.
It stated further that seven suspects had so far been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently assisting the police with investigations.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, supported by other tactical teams, remains actively engaged in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and the swift apprehension of perpetrators,” the statement stated.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations, assuring that all information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
