The Akwa Ibom state Police command has uncovered what it describes as a plot to disrupt economic activities in the Eastern Obolo local government area.
This was contained in a statement issued Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare in Uyo.
Azare said intelligence points to the involvement of certain individuals, including traditional rulers, politicians and youth leaders.
Describing the development as a significant threat to economic stability, the CP stated that the livelihoods of residents, many of whom depend on a peaceful environment, must not be jeopardised by acts driven by personal or political interests.
“The command is closely monitoring the activities of suspected organisers and will act decisively at the slightest indication of any breach of peace,” he stated.
Warning that any attempt to sabotage economic operations or incite unrest in the area would be met with decisive action, Azare said offenders would be identified, arrested and prosecuted regardless of their status.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the police to secure key infrastructure and protect federal government energy installations across Akwa Ibom.
The Police Commissioner called on parents, community leaders, and stakeholders to caution their wards against participating in activities capable of disrupting public order, warning that the consequences would be severe.
