WASHINGTON – The US military’s war campaign against Iran has cost $25 billion so far, the Pentagon’s top budget official told House lawmakers on Wednesday.
The bulk of that cost has been in munitions, although part of it has gone toward operations and maintenance, Jay Hurst, the Defense Department’s comptroller, told members of the House Armed Services Committee.
The White House will deliver a supplemental request to Congress for the war once its full cost has been assessed, Hurst said.
The comment came as lawmakers review the Trump administration’s unprecedented $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget request.
