Iranian Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf, on Thursday, mocked US President Donald Trump, saying that it’s been three days and no oil well explosions have been reported despite the latter’s threats. Last week, Trump had warned that Iran has only three days left to agree to a truce deal to end the ongoing war, or its oil pipelines will “explode from within.”
In a post on X, Ghalibaf warned that crude oil prices could reach USD 140 per barrel soon. “3 days in, no well exploded. We could extend to 30 and livestream the well here. That was the kind of junk advice the US admin gets from people like Bessent, who also push the blockade theory and cranked oil up to $120+. Next stop:140. The issue isn’t the theory, it’s the mindset,” he wrote.

Crude hits highest level since 2022
Amid rising concerns over reports of an ‘extended’ blockade by the United States on Iranian exports and stalled nuclear negotiations, oil prices on Wednesday jumped to their highest levels since 2022. The price of Brent oil surged past $120 a barrel, briefly hitting $122 as ceasefire negotiations between Washington and Tehran stalled, and the Strait of Hormuz remained heavily disrupted amid closure.

US Central Command said it had achieved a “significant milestone after successfully redirecting the 42nd commercial vessel attempting to violate the blockade,” adding that there are 41 tankers with 69 million barrels of oil that Iran can’t sell, putting its estimated worth above $6 billion.

Putin warns Trump against resuming attacks on Iran
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned Trump against resuming attacks on Tehran. In a telephonic conversation between the two leaders, Putin said Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire was “the right one”, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told media, reports added. However, he added that there would be unavoidable and highly damaging consequences for the region and for the world at large if fighting resumes.
