The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on the Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress to prioritise competence and youth inclusion in selecting its candidate for the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency.
In a statement on Friday, NANS National President, Olushola Oladoja, said as political activities gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle, parties must embrace informed and people-centred decisions.
He noted that the choice before the APC presents a critical opportunity to strengthen progressive governance and deliver responsive representation to the people.
Oladoja stressed that voters were now demanding tangible results rather than political rhetoric, urging the party to look beyond conventional considerations and focus on competence, grassroots connection and proven impact.
He said, “The emergence of Akeem Ayinla Ishola as a strong contender deserves serious and objective consideration.”
According to him, Ishola represents a new generation of leadership rooted in the realities of the people, particularly the youth and student population within the constituency.
The NANS president added that Ishola’s background in student leadership has equipped him with the capacity to mobilise and advocate effectively on societal issues.
Highlighting his contributions, Oladoja said the aspirant had demonstrated commitment to community development despite not holding public office.
He cited the construction of classroom blocks, renovation of healthcare facilities and support for local security initiatives as evidence of hands-on leadership.
He further noted Ishola’s investment in education through sponsorship of students for JAMB and NECO examinations, as well as scholarship schemes aimed at empowering young people.
“These interventions are not mere political gestures; they reflect a leader who understands the needs of the people because he has lived among them,” he said.
Oladoja maintained that Ishola’s candidacy aligns with the growing national demand for youth participation in governance, describing him as a capable leader with practical solutions.
He urged the APC leadership in Kwara State to make a decision that would define the future of representation in the constituency.
“The decision is not merely about selecting a candidate, but about choosing between empty promises and proven service,” he added.
The NANS boss concluded that the electorate expects leadership built on service, integrity and genuine connection to the people, urging the party to act accordingly.
