Nigerian music star Peter Okoye has pushed back against criticism over his decision to shift his birthday celebration from November 18 to November 30.
The singer, popularly known as Mr P, had earlier announced that he would no longer mark his birthday on the original date, describing the decision as personal.
He posted on X: “Dear Family, Friends, and Fans, I’m making it official.
‘November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date.
“Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day.
“My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th.”
The move triggered reactions online, with some users questioning the change.
Responding on Tuesday, Okoye criticised the backlash and questioned why the decision had drawn strong reactions.
He said: “Una dey vex like say I cancel Christmas?
“Na my birthday date I move… no be your own, why e dey pain you?
“Even Jesus Christ December 25th date sef, people still dey debate am.”
The singer also described the attention around the issue as misplaced, comparing it to more pressing national concerns.

He said: “Why cry more than the bereaved? Only in Nigeria, funny how my birthday date shift is causing more pain than Nigeria’s real problems.”
Okoye added a final remark directed at critics: “Just for the record: Insult no dey reduce success.
“Who don make am, don make am! Know that and know peace.”
The artiste rose to fame alongside his twin brother, Paul Okoye, as part of the now-defunct duo P-Square.
The group dominated the Nigerian music scene in the 2000s and early 2010s before splitting in 2015 over management and royalty disputes.
They formally disbanded in 2017, reunited in 2021, and later experienced renewed tensions linked to financial and managerial issues.
