The traditional rulers of Akure North Local Government have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ondo state Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to support the zoning of the 2027 House of Representatives ticket to the area.
The monarchs said the appeal was driven by the need to promote fairness, justice and inclusiveness in the political arrangement within the constituency.
In a statement signed on behalf of the royal fathers by the Ogbolu of Itaogbolu and Chairman, Council of Obas, Akure North Local Government, Oba Faborode Idowud, they stressed that the demand was a democratic necessity rather than a request for favour.
They warned that the continued exclusion of Akure North could breed discontent, weaken trust in party structures and alienate a critical voting population.
The traditional rulers reaffirmed their support for Tinubu, noting that their people remained loyal and committed to mobilising massively for his second term bid.
They, however, insisted that such loyalty must be matched with fairness in political representation.
“As custodians of peace, we remain committed to stability, but we must speak the truth that continued exclusion will undermine confidence and create avoidable tension,” the statement read.
The monarchs also highlighted what they described as an imbalance in the current political structure, pointing out that Akure South currently occupies both the senatorial seat and the House of Representatives position.
They argued that concentrating political power in one local government was neither equitable nor sustainable in a democratic system.
According to them, Akure North, which has 12 wards and significant economic potential, remains a major contributor to the constituency, particularly as its agricultural backbone and host of the Akure Airport corridor.
Despite these contributions, the royal fathers lamented that the area had remained politically sidelined, describing the situation as systemic marginalisation.
They urged Tinubu, Aiyedatiwa and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to act swiftly to correct the imbalance and ensure equitable representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
