In a significant step towards women’s empowerment in Kebbi State, hundreds of women have graduated from various skills acquisition programmes in Jega and Aliero towns, organised by the Kebbi State First Lady’s foundation, the Nasara Foundation.
The beneficiaries were drawn from Jega and Aliero Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held in Aliero, the First Lady of Kebbi State, Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, who was represented by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nasara Foundation, Balkisu Nasir, stressed the importance of collective action in driving social change.
“We must continue to work together, citizens, political leaders, and stakeholders, to advance women’s and youth empowerment, while also extending support to the less privileged in our society,” she said.

She also cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the starter packs distributed to them.
“Do not sell the items given to you. Use them to build your livelihoods.
“The skills you have acquired, if properly utilised, will enable you to support yourselves and your families,” she added.
Speaking earlier, the initiator of the empowerment programme in the area, Tukur Wasoso of Jega, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting vulnerable women in line with the vision of Governor Nasir Idris and his wife.
“This initiative is aligned with the vision of the Kebbi State Government to uplift women and improve their economic well-being. We remain committed to supporting programmes that empower our people,” he said.
He explained that the programme aims to equip women with practical skills and resources to enhance their economic prospects and contribute to community development.
Several speakers at the event commended the initiative, describing it as part of the broader Nasara Initiative for Women and Youth Development, a collaborative effort between the Nasara Foundation and Tukur Wasoso’s Foundation.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the programme.
“We are grateful for this opportunity. The support we received will help us start something meaningful and improve our lives,” one of the graduates said.
They pledged to utilise the items responsibly and for their intended purposes.
The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates and distribution of essential starter packs, including tailoring equipment, laptops, and shoemaking machines, among others.
