The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina has renewed its commitment to working with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to enhance the safety and security of schools across the state.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Moriki, made this known on Friday during a courtesy visit to the ministry, noting that the visit was aimed at strengthening their existing collaboration.
Moriki stressed that cooperation among critical stakeholders remains vital in addressing prevailing security challenges.
He noted that, given the current security situation, sustained engagement among relevant agencies is key to protecting students, teachers, and school infrastructure.
“Synergy and collaboration between the NSCDC and the Ministry of Education are essential to ensuring the safety of our schools and the future of our children,” he said.
In response, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Suleiman-Jibia, described the visit as timely and underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation in securing learning environments.
He commended the NSCDC for its role in safeguarding students and school facilities, describing the corps as a critical stakeholder in the education sector.
Suleiman-Jibia reiterated the state government’s commitment to school safety and revealed ongoing efforts to domesticate the National Safe Schools Programme to further strengthen security measures.
The commissioner also assured continued collaboration with the NSCDC and other stakeholders to sustain peace and safety in schools.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NSCDC commandant also monitored the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at various centres across the state.
While distributing advanced operational gadgets and equipment to personnel on duty, Moriki commended the smooth conduct of the examination and called for sustained vigilance.
