Information Minister Idris Bags Vanguard ‘Image Maker Award 2026’
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has been honoured with the Image Maker Award 2026 by Vanguard Media Limited, in recognition of his efforts to strengthen public communication and build trust in government.
Idris received the award on Friday at a ceremony held at Eko Hotel & Suites, describing the recognition as a validation of ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and credibility in government communication amid Nigeria’s reform agenda.
Speaking at the event, the minister said the award reflects a broader commitment to fostering trust between the government and citizens. He emphasised that effective communication remains central to governance, noting that it must not only inform but also inspire confidence, unity, and hope among Nigerians.
According to him, sustained engagement with the public and the media has been critical in bridging the gap between government policies and public perception. He stressed the importance of openness and regular dialogue in ensuring that citizens remain informed and involved.
Idris also highlighted the role of accurate and timely information in addressing national security concerns, revealing ongoing collaboration between government institutions, security agencies, and media organisations to maintain public calm and reinforce confidence in state actions.
He commended the media for its role in shaping public discourse and acknowledged the contributions of his colleagues and staff within the ministry to improving Nigeria’s communication framework. He also praised Vanguard Media Limited for promoting excellence and recognising public service.
The minister noted that the government’s communication strategy has been particularly crucial as the country navigates significant policy changes, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, and fiscal restructuring. He said the approach has prioritised clarity, consistency, and credibility, while ensuring that policies are communicated with empathy and a focus on long-term national benefits.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, Idris described the award as both an honour and a call to greater service.
The ceremony attracted prominent figures, including the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah; the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, among other dignitaries.
