Former Governor of Nasarawa state, Tanko Al-Makura, has described as unprecedented the increase in the revenue going to states and Local Government Areas since Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged as President, adding that the efforts will make re-election easy in 2027.
The former Governor called on the sub-nationals to ensure that Nigerians appreciate and understand certain efforts of the President that are not known to be known so that at the end of the day “you find less people complaining.”
Speaking Tuesday in Abuja at a book launch written by the Nigeria Ambassador designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Yakubu N. Gambo, Al-makura described President Tinubu as the most prepared President ever govern Nigeria.
The two books are: Revenue Sharing and Resource Allocation in Nigeria and African Economic Community and the Challenges of Integration.
According to Al-Makura, there is no state or local government that can justify their non performance based on revenue they are getting from the federal government. So, they are expected to do much with the resources that are given in the past two years.
“We should see 5 or 6 times more infrastructure development, positive development and different kinds of value addition across every aspect of our national life, because the revenue now is huge. So with this, Nigerians would work tirelessly to ensure that this kind of thing continues,” the former Governor said.
For him, the Plateau state governor, Caled Manasseh Mutfang, said said Nigeria as a nation needs to move from a consumer economy to production, adding that the larger debate has to go back to resource mobilization before we talk about allocation.
“We are still a consumer economy and we are yet to go into production. Part of the challenges of revenue allocation is that we are still trying to share the same cake that was bake many years ago. If we do not make a bigger cake, we will certainly continue to have tensions in revenue allocation.”
The governor assured that he will lay a solid foundation for a producing economy in Plateau state before leaving office.
Speaking on why he wrote the two books, the author, who is the Nigeria Ambassador Designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Gambo, said he did the work to contribute to knowledge.
He called for more allocation to area where those revenue are being generated.
“I made some recommendations in the book. I am one of those who believe in everything kindness and justice and therefore they need to allocate more resources to the areas that produce the national cake.”
