A woman has taken to social media to express deep frustration over her marriage, alleging repeated public insults and financial neglect by her husband.
Financial strain and public insult spark concern
She said the situation escalated during the Easter period in 2026 in Nigeria’s ongoing cost-of-living pressure, leaving her overwhelmed and uncertain about her future in the marriage.
“I’m honestly not thinking straight right now… I feel like walking away from my marriage. Last week, my husband insulted me publicly, called me senseless. This isn’t the first time, and I kept quiet out of respect.”
Savings dispute deepens marital tension
She explained that despite staying silent previously to maintain respect, the verbal abuse reportedly continued, affecting her emotional wellbeing and household stability.
According to her, she has also been solely responsible for feeding her children after her husband stopped providing money for upkeep.
“Because I was low on cash, I decided to take from my piggy savings, planning to replace it later. To my greatest shock… it was EMPTY. My husband had taken all the money without telling me.”
The lady disclosed that the savings account was initially encouraged by her husband, who advised her against joining traditional rotating savings groups known as ajo or esusu, warning of fraud risks.
She said the trust she placed in him has now been broken. A 2023 family welfare report in Nigeria also highlighted rising economic abuse households today.
