A heartbreaking story from Mombasa has touched many people after a man, Salim, shared how his life completely changed after spending two decades in prison for a crime he insists he did not commit.
Salim said he was wrongly accused of robbery while working at a tourist office.
According to him, some colleagues who didn’t like him pointed fingers at him after money went missing, and that was how his nightmare began.
He was arrested, charged with robbery with violence, and later sentenced to life imprisonment. While behind bars, Salim refused to give up. He went back to school, completed his education, and kept hoping for justice.
After 20 long years, his appeal was finally heard. The court ruled that no one was harmed during the incident, and the time he had already spent in prison was enough. He was set free the next day.
But freedom came with fresh pain.
When he returned home, he discovered that both his parents had died. His wife had remarried, and his land had been sold by a relative who is now also late.
Now starting from nothing, Salim is pleading for help to rebuild his life, as many continue to question how such a painful injustice could happen.
