The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has worsened a fuel crisis in Bangladesh, which imports most of its energy needs, Reuters reported.
Long queues have formed outside petrol stations, universities have been shut and authorities have cut working hours to conserve energy, as the disruption to oil flows affects Asian economies.
Drivers said allocations were too low for long journeys.
“We are in deep trouble with this crisis. This is a daily woe for us,” Mohammad Irfat, a 17-year-old student, told Reuters.
“Only two litres of fuel are not enough. I came from Inani. The return trips drain all my fuel. Almost one to one-and-a-half litres of fuel is burnt.”
