The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a roadside hawker following a tragic crash at Okokomaiko, even as its operatives rescued seven injured passengers in a separate accident at Ogudu inward Toll Gate.
In a statement issued by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday, the agency said the fatal incident involved a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY.
He noted that the crash led to the death of an adult male hawker, adding that LASTMA officials responded promptly to secure the scene and remove the victim from the road.
Taofiq stated that officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Ketu Division subsequently evacuated the remains to the Badagry Mortuary for further procedures.
In a separate incident, LASTMA operatives also intervened in a collision at Ogudu inward Toll Gate involving a Mazda commercial bus and a Lexus Jeep.
He explained that seven passengers sustained injuries in the crash but were quickly rescued at the scene.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), transported the injured victims to nearby hospitals for treatment, while security operatives from the Ogudu Police Division provided support.
According to Taofiq, all vehicles involved in both incidents have been handed over to the police for investigation to determine the causes of the crashes.
Reacting to the incidents, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to observe traffic rules and exercise caution on the roads.
He stressed the need for drivers to maintain safe speeds and remain vigilant, particularly at night when visibility is reduced.
