A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of a police facility and three separate residential buildings in Ibadan, causing panic among residents and raising fresh concerns about fire safety in the area.
The incident involving the police station reportedly occurred in the Kara area of Akinyele Local Government Area. According to eyewitness accounts, the blaze engulfed operational assets including a patrol vehicle and several motorcycles. Sources indicated that the fire spread rapidly before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Officials confirmed that personnel from the Oyo State Fire Service responded promptly and were able to contain the flames before they reached the main police station structure.
The quick intervention prevented further destruction of critical infrastructure and nearby properties.
In separate incidents recorded on the same day, three residential buildings located in different parts of Ibadan were also affected by fire outbreaks. One of the buildings, situated at No. 19 Omigade Street around Robert Junction in the Ososami area, suffered significant damage, particularly on its ground floor.
Additional fires were reported in Moniya and Alakia, both within the Ibadan metropolis.
Residents in these areas described moments of fear and confusion as they attempted to salvage belongings while waiting for emergency assistance.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed all the incidents, noting that firefighters were deployed swiftly to each location. He explained that coordinated efforts by his team helped to bring the situations under control and prevent further escalation.
Although no casualties have been officially reported, the extent of property damage is still being assessed.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety precautions to reduce the risk of future occurrences.
