FG Amends Charges Against Ex-AGF Malami, Son, Drops Terrorism Financing Allegation

The federal government has amended the charges filed against former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, removing earlier allegations bordering on terrorism financing.

At the court session on Wednesday, counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinlolu Kehinde, informed the court of the amendment and applied for the substitution of the previous charge.

“The amended charge borders on illegal possession of firearms,” he said.

Counsel to the defendants, Shaibu Aruwa, confirmed that his clients had been duly served with the amended charge and did not oppose its substitution being read in court.

“I confirm that my clients have been served with the amended charge, and we have no objection to the fresh charge being read to the defendants,” he said.

Following the agreement of both parties, the amended charge was read to Abubakar Malami and Abdulaziz Malami in open court, after which they both pleaded not guilty.

The case was subsequently adjourned, with further proceedings expected to continue.
