The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed shock and grave concern over the reported attack on a church gathering in Eda Oniyo, Ekiti state, where gunmen allegedly killed a pastor and abducted several worshippers during an open-air crusade.

In a statement signed by its president, Daniel Okoh, the association described the incident as deeply disturbing and condemned it in strong terms.

CAN said the victims had gathered peacefully for worship but were met with violence, noting that the attack was not only on a church but also a direct assault on human life and dignity.

The body commiserated with the family of the slain pastor and expressed solidarity with the victims and the Christian community in Ekiti state, while calling for the immediate and safe release of those abducted.

The association further linked the incident to a growing pattern of attacks, citing recent cases in Yagba West local government area of Kogi state, where gunmen reportedly abducted residents, including clergy and their families.CAN said the recurring incidents underscore a worsening security situation that requires urgent attention.
