The Director General of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Imo state, Dr Obioma Okafor, has warned residents against buying and consuming unlabeled and unregistered products.
Dr Okafor gave the warning on Wednesday after inspecting markets in Owerri.
She said the increasing presence of such products poses serious risks to public health and safety.
Okafor said items without clear labels, manufacturing details or regulatory approval should not be trusted.
She said: “Consumers must be cautious. Any product without proper labelling or registration details should be avoided.
“Your safety must always come first.
“Properly labelled products provide essential information such as ingredients, usage instructions, manufacturing and expiry dates, which help consumers make informed decisions before consumption.
“Other details to look out for include clear product name and manufacturer details, NAFDAC registration number (where applicable), manufacturing and expiry dates, as well as proper packaging and seal.”

She warned that patronising unregistered goods encourages illegal practices and weakens standards in the marketplace.
The CPC boss urged traders to comply with regulatory requirements or face sanctions.
Okafor reaffirmed the council’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring only safe products are sold in the state.
The warning comes amid concerns over the circulation of substandard goods, with agencies such as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) repeatedly cautioning against health risks linked to fake and improperly labelled products.
