Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that he would step aside for any other candidate, including former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, in the race for the presidency if they emerged as winners.
Abubakar made the declaration in an exclusive interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, when he was pressed on whether he would concede to Obi if it came down to a single opposition ticket.
“I will step aside for any winner,” he said plainly, when asked point-blank to answer yes or no.
Pushed further on whether that commitment extended specifically to Obi, his former vice-presidential running mate, Atiku answered: “Of course.

When the interviewer suggested that Obi’s prior role as his running mate might make such a concession difficult, Atiku dismissed the notion.
He said: “Why is it difficult there?
“I don’t know.
“It’s either you go through democracy or you go through consensus,” he said.
Abubakar had earlier said the 2027 presidential election may be his final attempt to contest for elections.
