In a post to X, the US embassy in Beirut has called for a direct meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming the country stands at a “crossroads” to “decide its own destiny”.
The statement continued that a “direct engagement” between the countries, facilitated by the US, would “mark the beginning of a national revival” for Lebanon.
The embassy gave its support to “stand with Lebanon as it seizes this opportunity with confidence and wisdom”.
This comes during Israel’s continued strikes and invasion of the country despite their ceasefire, announcing its objectives to secure an area spanning 15 towns in a statement released on Thursday.
