Kano/Jigawa Customs, APM Deepen Partnership to Boost Trade, Revenue Generation
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has intensified efforts to strengthen trade facilitation and revenue generation through a renewed partnership with APM Terminals.
This follows a strategic visit by the terminal operator’s Managing Director, Kamal Rashad, to the Command headquarters in Bompai, where both parties explored avenues for deeper collaboration.
According to a statement issued on April 27, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, discussions centred on improving cargo handling efficiency, enhancing regulatory compliance, and expanding trade facilitation frameworks within the Kano inland logistics corridor.
Receiving the delegation, Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, described APM Terminals as one of the largest cargo facilities in Kano in terms of capacity and throughput.
Adamu emphasised the Command’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the terminal operator, particularly in driving export activities and increasing government revenue. He noted that APM Terminals’ compliance record positions it as a potential leading contributor to Customs revenue in the region.
He further stressed that sustained collaboration between Customs authorities and terminal operators remains critical to streamlining cargo clearance processes and improving operational efficiency. The Command, he added, would continue to support legitimate business activities capable of stimulating economic growth.
In his remarks, Rashad commended the Kano/Jigawa Area Command for its consistent support, noting that his leadership currently oversees operations in both Kano and Apapa.
He identified Kano as a strategic market with significant growth potential, reaffirming the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the region.
Rashad added that APM Terminals Apapa and Kano operations would benefit from ongoing investments aimed at enhancing service delivery and operational standards.
The renewed partnership is expected to strengthen the efficiency of inland cargo movement and contribute to increased export volumes and revenue generation in northern Nigeria.
