The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State on Tuesday endorsed the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The highest decision-making organ of the APC in Lagos State made this known after a closed door meeting at Lagos House, Marina.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Leader of GAC, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, made the announcement after the end of the strategic meeting.
They also announced that the 34-member GAC has also agreed to purchase the governorship nomination form costing N50 million for Hamzat as a sign of full support for his bid.
The council, however, clarified that despite the consensus, the APC will still conduct primaries for all positions in line with the party’s guidelines in order to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
Twenty-three out of the 34 GAC members attended the meeting.
They included Senator Tokunbo Abiru; Ganiyu Olawale Solomon (popularly known as GOS), Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and Cardinal James Odunmbaku.
Others in attendance were Hamzat; GAC member, Otunba Busura Alebiosu; and APC Chairman in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
