The Osun State Police Command has arrested the man, Adekola Jimoh Amobi, captured in widely circulated viral video assaulting female Police officers on lawful traffic control duty with baton and shovel in Ido Osun.
The 32-year-old father of three escaped from the scene and ran to Ilobu from where he escaped to Edo State where he was finally arrested by the Police, according to his confessional statement during his parade on Tuesday.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, while briefing press men on Tuesday recounted the effort that led to the successful arrest of Amobi.
“Following the disturbing incident, which showed the suspect attacking the innocent female officer with a stick and shovel, the Police immediately launched a coordinated intelligence-led operation to apprehend the perpetrator.
“The suspect, who fled the scene and escaped to Edo State in an attempt to evade arrest, was successfully tracked and apprehended today (Tuesday 28 April 2026).
“The arrest underscores the commitment of the Police to ensuring that acts of violence against law enforcement officers and other citizens do not go unpunished.
“Assault on Police officers performing their lawful duties is a serious criminal offence, and the Force will not tolerate any form of attack on its personnel.
“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the State’s police boss said.
He condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. He further reassured members of the public that the Command remained resolute in protecting lives and property, while also urging citizens to respect law enforcement officers and cooperate with them in the discharge of their duties.
He also informed the press that the Ijebu-Ijesa Patrol Team of the Police Force on stop and search duty along Ijebu-Ijesa road stopped a suspected motorcyclist and conducted a search on him and his passenger.
According to him, “In the process one Olarotimi Ibiyemi, ‘M’, 28 years, an indigene of Lagos State who happened to be an ex-student of the College of Technology, Esa-Oke was searched and one cut to size pistol and two cartridges were recovered from his bag with his ID card.”
Gotan said a thorough investigation by the SCID Osogbo “led to the arrest of one Ajayi Bosuyi, ‘M’ of Esa-Oke who was also arrested with a cut to size two long dane guns. He confessed to being a spiritual leader of Aiye Confraternity which Olarotimi Ibiyemi also belongs.
“Effort is ongoing to arrest other members of the dreaded gangs.”
The Commissioner thanked the press for supporting the police in their efforts to rid the state of crimes and urged residents to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
