Michael Jackson’s biopic has stormed the worldwide box office, scoring the highest opening weekend ever for a biopic. The movie which was released on Wednesday has reportedly made $217m (£160m) globally since it opened.

Michael Jackson’s biopic has stormed the worldwide box office, scoring the highest opening weekend ever for a biopic. The movie which was released on Wednesday has reportedly made $217m (£160m) globally since it opened.

Starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson who played the role of the pop star, the biopic tells the story of the global star, popularly known as the ‘King of Pop’.

The chairman of the film’s US distributor Lionsgate, Adam Fogelson, spoke about the global record set by the movie, stressing that fans are having a blast.

“You don’t deliver this figure unless you’re seeing huge numbers across every conceivable demographic. [Audiences] are clearly having a blast,” he said.

The film is however, yet to launch in Japan, where the local distributor has scheduled a June release date.
