Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka provided an assist as Coventry City capped their Championship-winning season with a 3-1 victory over Wrexham, denting the visitors’ play-off hopes.
Already confirmed champions, Coventry extended their unbeaten run to seven matches and moved to 92 points, underlining their dominance ahead of a return to the Premier League next season.
Champions finish in style
The hosts set the tone early at the Coventry Building Society Arena, where they received a guard of honour from Wrexham before kick-off.
The celebratory mood translated onto the pitch when Brandon Thomas-Asante opened the scoring in the 19th minute, his 13th league goal of the campaign, finishing from close range after a well-worked move involving Onyeka.
Wrexham responded quickly, with Ollie Rathbone firing home just six minutes later to level the score and keep their play-off ambitions alive.
Despite the equaliser, Coventry maintained control for large spells, showcasing the quality that has defined their title-winning campaign under Frank Lampard.
Late quality seals victory
The decisive moment arrived 10 minutes from time when Victor Torp struck a powerful free-kick to restore Coventry’s lead.
Substitute Ephron Mason-Clark then added a third from Onyeka’s assist in stoppage time to seal the win and spark further celebrations among the home supporters.
For Wrexham, the defeat leaves them clinging to sixth place, just one point above Derby County heading into the final round of fixtures. Their promotion hopes remain in the balance.
Coventry, meanwhile, will close out their season away to Watford, with attention already shifting to preparations for life back in the top flight.
