The Umunneochi Traditional Rulers’ Advisory Council in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, on Friday, conferred the chieftaincy title of ‘Ike Oha 1 of Umunneochi’ on President Bola Tinubu.
The title, which translates to “the strength of the people,” was bestowed on the president during a civic reception held in Amuda Isuochi in honour of the immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the council and Ezema III of Lokpa, Franklin Ohalezim, said the honour was in recognition of Tinubu’s decision to appoint Onyejeocha into his cabinet.
“President Tinubu gave our daughter the opportunity to showcase her abilities and serve her people and the nation effectively as minister,” Ohalezim said.
Responding on behalf of the president, the National Welfare Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Donatus Nwankpa, expressed appreciation to the royal fathers for the recognition and for “gifting their daughter for national service.”
Tinubu noted that it was difficult for him to accept Onyejeocha’s resignation and urged the traditional rulers to continue supporting her as she pursues her next political ambition.
