The Nigerian Army and Kaduna state government have stepped up collaboration to tackle recurring security threats associated with the rainy season with renewed emphasis on intelligence sharing, community engagement and coordinated response mechanisms.
Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Sule Shu’aibu, gave the assurance at a Security Sector Stakeholders Engagement held at the Headquarters 1 Division Auditorium in Kaduna.
The engagement, themed: “Joint Action for Safe Environment: Security Agencies and Communities Working Together,” centred on strategies to curb seasonal threats such as banditry, farmer-herder clashes, abductions and attacks on rural communities, particularly during the farming season.
Sani said the state had made notable progress in restoring relative peace and stability through sustained collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, traditional leaders and local communities.
He noted that the maiden edition of the engagement had yielded positive outcomes, including improved intelligence sharing, better coordinated responses and stronger community participation in security management.
“As the rainy season returns, so do familiar patterns of security challenges which threaten our food security and rural livelihoods.
“This engagement provides a platform to assess the threat landscape, review progress and reinforce mechanisms that have delivered results,” he said.
The governor stated that enduring peace and security could only be achieved through collective responsibility, urging traditional institutions, civil society groups, religious bodies and residents to actively support ongoing security efforts.
He called for practical, inclusive and sustainable solutions capable of translating into real improvements in the safety and well-being of residents across the state.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, said the engagement came at a critical period, noting that the rainy season had historically coincided with heightened security concerns in Kaduna state.
