A senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun West, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Wednesday reiterated his commitment to the success of Bola Oyebamiji in the August 15 governorship election.
Ogunbiyi whose video was circulated where he stated how Governor Ademola Adeleke attempted to join the APC through President Bola Tinubu and was rejected by Adegboye Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
He promised that he will not do anything to undermine the interests of the party while seeking to represent the district in the Senate.
He spoke at his country home in Ile-Ogbo, Aiyedire local government, saying it was unfortunate that some politicians were circulating a misleading version of a statement he made while consulting with constituents.
He said some genuine party members initially felt aggrieved over the “portion of the event,” but later changed their stance after hearing the full recorded video.
Ogunbiyi stated that as a committed APC member, it would be “unthinkable” for him to go against the party’s directives from the unit up to the national level. He described his critics as political opponents trying to discredit him, saying his growing political influence had become a “nightmare” to them.
Ogunbiyi added that he and his supporters carried out investigations into the incident and concluded that “if not for unusual happening,” the story could not have spread the way it did.
He added that sponsors of the misinformation tried to create a rift between him and major APC figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Oyetola and Bola Oyebamiji, whom he described as “governor-in-waiting.”
