Police, NCoS Deepen Security Partnership, Seeks Enhanced Intelligence Sharing
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service to enhance efficiency within the country’s criminal justice system.
Disu made the call on Tuesday during a strategic courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Abuja, describing inter-agency cooperation as critical to strengthening national security and improving justice delivery.
The police chief stressed the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, improved custodial security, and seamless coordination between both institutions, noting that such synergy would help boost investigative outcomes and reduce delays in prosecution.
He reiterated the commitment of the police to institutional collaboration aimed at supporting ongoing reforms in the correctional system and ensuring a more effective criminal justice process.
Responding, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, commended the IGP for the visit, describing it as historic and a demonstration of commitment to strengthening ties between the two agencies.
Nwakuche noted that Disu is the first serving Inspector-General of Police to undertake such an official visit to the Service’s headquarters, adding that the development signals a renewed focus on inter-agency cooperation.
He also advocated increased collaboration in intelligence gathering, custodial management, and joint training programmes to improve professionalism, operational efficiency, and coordination across the criminal justice system.
Both agencies reaffirmed their resolve to deepen cooperation in order to enhance security outcomes and ensure a more effective administration of justice in Nigeria.
