Top political leaders, legal minds, and distinguished personalities from across Nigeria are set to converge in Abuja for the 10th anniversary memorial of renowned legal luminary, Dr. Olatunji Akintunde Braithwaite.

Among the high-profile attendees expected at the solemn event is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has also confirmed his participation following a courtesy visit by Barrister Olumide Braithwaite and members of the memorial planning committee. The visit highlighted the enduring legacy of the late legal icon and the importance of commemorating his impact on Nigeria’s governance and justice system.

The memorial is scheduled to hold on May 2, 2026, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Conference Hall in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by Barrister Olumide Braithwaite on Sunday.

Other prominent figures billed to attend include Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande; and Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka. Also expected is Benedict Hope Uzoma Obi, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

The event is being organised to celebrate and reflect on the life, achievements, and enduring legacy of Dr. Braithwaite, widely regarded as a towering figure in Nigeria’s legal profession and a steadfast advocate for democracy and the rule of law.

A major highlight of the memorial will be the official launch of a comprehensive biography chronicling Dr. Braithwaite’s life, career, and influence. The publication is expected to provide deeper insight into his contributions to constitutional law, civil rights advocacy, and Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Speaking ahead of the event, Barrister Olumide Braithwaite noted that the remembrance ceremony would serve as a moment of reflection and inspiration.

According to him, the gathering will not only honour the memory of the late legal icon but also rekindle conversations around the core values he stood for — justice, democracy, integrity, and principled leadership.

“This memorial offers an opportunity for both the legal community and the nation at large to reflect on the enduring ideals that Dr. Braithwaite championed throughout his life,” he said.

The organisers emphasized that attendance at the event will be strictly by invitation, as preparations are being made to host a dignified and well-curated ceremony befitting the stature of the late jurist.

Dr. Olatunji Akintunde Braithwaite remains widely respected for his fearless advocacy, intellectual depth, and unwavering commitment to national development, even a decade after his passing.
