Stock market sustains bullish run, gains N884bn

The Nigerian equities market sustained a growth trend on Tuesday, appreciating by N884 billion as gains in mid cap and heavyweight stocks lifted trading for the day.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.67 per cent to N132.492 trillion from N131.608 trillion it closed on Monday.

The NGX All Share Index also went up by 1372.52 basis points to 205831.38 points from 204458.86 points traded the previous day.

The positive performance recorded during the day was supported by gains in the shares of GTCO Plc, SeplatEnergy, Zenith Bank, Wapco, Stanbic IBTC, Mecure, ETI, NGX group among others.

The market breadth was positive with 40 gainers against 21 decliners, bringing year to date return to 32.32 per cent.

A review of trading for the day showed that 
Stanbic IBTC and ETO led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N161.70 and N50.60 per unit, NGX group followed with a gain of 9.97 per cent to close at N168.75 per unit, Cornerstone Insurance added 9.94 per cent to close at N5.56 per share, Mecure gained 9.92 per cent to close at N67.60 per unit.

On the contrary, FTG insurance topped losers charity dropping by 8.20 per cent to close at N1.12 per unit, Mcnichols trailed with a loss of 8.17 per cent to close at N6.52 per unit, Academy Press went down by 6.96 per cent to close at N7.35 per unit, international General Insurance dipped by 6.88 per cent to close at N3.25 per unit, Guinea Insurance sheds 5.83 per cent to close at N1.13 Kobo.

Volume of trades rose by 99.301 million, representing 21.13 per cent as investors traded 569.309 million shares against 470.008 million shares recorded the previous day. The value of transactions declined by 0.61 per cent to settle at N32.249 billion in 45777 deals.

Trading in Access Holdings Company led market activities with 67.529 million shares valued at N1.746 billion, Zenith Bank followed with account of 39.741 million shares valued at N4.500 billion, VFD group traded 37.741 million shares worth N422.983 million, GTCO Plc exchanged 30.565 million shares cost N3.796 billion while Lasaco Insurance exchanged 26.305 million shares valued at N52.613 million.
