The Anambra State Police Command has arrested members of a felony gang linked to an assault on the convoy of former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, with two suspects killed throughout a gun battle.
The command described the event as a significant operational breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to rid the state of felony components and make sure the security of lives and property.
In accordance with the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Fast Response Squad, Awkuzu, appearing on credible intelligence, laid an ambush on a five-man gang on the Enugwu Agidi junction.
Ikenga stated the suspects, believed to be armed robbers and cultists with hyperlinks to a proscribed secessionist group, engaged the operatives in a gun battle upon sighting them.
“Through the change, which lasted about two hours, two of the armed suspects sustained deadly gunshot accidents, whereas three others escaped with various levels of accidents,” the PPRO acknowledged.
He added that the operatives recovered one T.06 rifle, two pump-action weapons, 24 rounds of T.06 ammunition, 15 reside cartridges, assorted felony charms, a cult purple beret, and a black Toyota Highlander automobile.
